Like most mystery/action plots

Like most mystery/action plots, this one requires a willing suspension of one's critical faculties, this one more so than most. Two hardened professional killers falling in love and then throwing out all their hard learned survival techniques in the throes of a sudden access of romantic love is, well, not really believable.

However, when this experiment ends, one thing is clear: the nightmare has only just begun.

Part 1 explains how the political prisoners were recruited from the POW camp.

Part 2 is told from the POV of an experimentee with interspersed reports from the lead scientist. The major action of the original tale is fleshed out and occurs in real time. The novella delves into the mind of the prisoners from inside the cage of the experiment.

Part 3 is told from the POV of a scientist involved in the experiment. He continues the story after the experiment has concluded. The consequences of the experiment are played out among the isolated log cabins of rural Siberia.

This volume features iIllustrations by award-winning graphic artist Daniel Tyka.

A Well-Developed Version of the Classic Creepypasta Story

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you're a fan of creepypasta, horror tales that you can find floating around the Internet, you've probably read The Russian Sleep Experiment. The basic premise of the story is that a small group of Russian prisoners are promised to have their sentences lifted if they take part in the eponymous experiment. This task consists of placing the prisoners in a sealed room with a gas that is meant to keep them from sleeping. But as you can imagine, things go horrifically wrong...

Ice's novella succeeds in developing this premise and expanding short story into a better tale. The story provides characterization for both the prisoners and the authorities running the experiment, providing more emotional weight for the reader when the experiment does go awfully awry with increasingly horrific consequences. It's been awhile since I read the original story, but from what I can remember this novella tweaks and expands the horror that this experiment unleashed. All in all an enjoyable novella and a quick read for fans of horror, dark fiction, and creepypasta.

Unique Fast Phased Approach-Enjoyed in One Sitting!

The Russian Sleep Experiment Horror Novella by Holly Ice is an interesting composition which made me enjoy in my leisure time. The book is woven as three different parts and I must say that this is a unique compilation. The author uses a simple and easily understandable language to every one. It makes the reader visualize the events being described by the author. The flow through dialogues make it a more interesting read.

The story is based on a legend about sleep experiments on Russian prisoners. This happens in a prison in Siberia. The prisoners are bound to a long period of prison time where they have to experience hard labor as well. The prisoners are experimented on sleep using gas. This book is a fast phased quick read as well. There are pictures added time to time in order to convey the image and the surrounding to reader's mind and the added illustrations are very appropriate as well. The log book records added provides a wonderful approach and I really like this. The creepy horror sense in its flow will make any reader feel the depth and sense the nature of this book and entertain him. Recommended reading for every one!

An fresh approach to a well-known story

At first I was skeptical when I stumbled upon this title. This is a short novella and I was able finish it in 3 sittings. The writing is interesting and at times immersive,but I do think some further work could have gone into expending the plot a bit more.Specifically, I feel that various parts of the plot could have been described in more 'detail'. That being said, reading this was fun and the approach taken to portray this classic story is unique. It's good to see a young author confront such a widely-known and notorious topic. The illustrations are really nice to look at and add to the overall atmosphere of the writing. This is a good weekend read, especially for fans of the story.

About the Author
Growing up as the daughter of piano teacher Gladys Smisor, Jane began her childhood lessons with Leota Anderson in Hutchinson, Kansas. After graduating from Barnard College of Columbia University, she continued her studies with Isabelle Vengerova in New York, and received a Master of Arts degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. Jane Smisor Bastien was formerly a pedagogy professor and director of the Preparatory Department of Music at Tulane University, where she had an opportunity to extensively research current methodology in developing the Bastien teaching materials for children.

Because she still teaches a large number of students in her home in La Jolla (San Diego), Jane's composing continues to be directly related to her own students' experiences. She knows what appeals to contemporary children and writes music that they will find fun to play. In recognition of their significant contribution to music and music education, Jane and her husband James Bastien were presented with the 1999 MTNA Lifetime Achievement Award.

This book is a MUST read about Healthcare

This book is as true as it gets.It is not for the nurses, they live it. It is for the Leaders and Managers that create those internal processes that the nurses work in. This is about Hospital process failures and how the nurse staff runs faster to try to take care of Patients while trying to trick the systems into working. Broken systems, that even if they partially work, are out of sync and are user unfriendly to say the least. There is no coordinated effort to fix them. It is just, keep fighting the fires day in and day out. Both Nurse and Physicians are frustrated and probably so is the hospital management staff. Management staff don't know how to fix this and stay within budget. But the worse part, this has been common knowledge since 1999 when the paper " To Err is Human" came out. Now there are more hospitals are being built and more people that die daily. 1000+ people a day die in hospitals from avoidable causes. It is now the leading cause of death in the U.S. -Yes - going into the hospital! That's about 400,000 people a Year in 2013! How come we don't see that in the news every night? Must read!

I met the author through networking and found his book. I think it is an accurate depiction of what our healthcare has become. As a matter of fact, it elicited an emotional response - which shows it is well written. The author takes you on the floor, on the front line - and accurately shows what is going on. Our country is lagging behind in healthcare. We keep using band aids when we need to prevent the injuries/ illnesses. Invest to save. I enjoyed this book for a couple reasons, it showed me why I left bedside nursing - and it is a great step to assist healthcare decision makers understand, or get a glimpse of what is going on - and why their decisions are so important. Ask front line staff - value their opinions. We, as healthcare clinicians routinely fix and solve problems creatively - but we are getting very tired. Time to turn it around. Inevitably we, or our loved ones, will be present in that hospital bed someday - who do you want taking care of you? Thank you Colin for sharing.

A fresh approach to reducing costs and waste in the US healthcare system

Baird and Sundahl aptly portray a refreshing look at our healthcare system at the day-to-day operations level. However, most importantly they present the reader with a roadmap of how to fix the problems plaguing the system: practice one of Covey's 7 habits of highly effective people: seek first to understand, then to be understood. Instead of trying to continually putting out fires try to understand the customers' and their caregivers' needs. A must and easy read for healthcare professionals who are serious about reducing the cost and waste in the delivery of healthcare in the US.

Scot Anderson really does not add anything to the discourse on financial literacy or on creating wealth. His book was published in 2006 just prior to the current real estate and financial meltdown. He is a pastor who found that he could increase his net worth by investing in real estate in one of the hottest US markets in the Southwest. His book is a primer about good debt versus bad, the value of relationships in relation to money, and that wealth is created through problem solving. He also offers a scriptural basis for wealth creation and wise financial stewardship. There is a work book that accompanies this book as well to help you get on target.
As I often do with the books that I read, I wrote notes in the margins, "a-ha" moments that I had. Those moments however did not stem from any new information that or financial concepts that I got from this book, there really aren't any but this book may be good to help others synthesize information from other sources.
