Best book on new Korean Cinema

This is a well-written, intelligent survey of the most crucial years in the development of recent Korean cinema. Paquet obviously knows his stuff and seems to have lived through some of it (he lives in Korea). What's most useful is the historical and social perspective and context in which Paquet frames his account. For those of us who don't know much about Korea, it helps deepen our understanding of the films themselves and the environment in which Korean cinema took hold of the world's imagination at the end of the 20th century. It's a necessary corrective to all that misinformation you find from fanboys, opportunistic blogs, and amateurs who don't know their Park Chan-wook from Don Siegel. An absolute necessity for anyone's collection - even if you only have a passing interest in cinema, this book will tell you a lot about Korea itself.

Now if only Paquet would turn his attention to the deeper riches of Korean cinema of the 1950s and 1960s!

Disappointed me.Sort of a survey of the K- film INDUSTRY, rather than an investigation of the cultural roots, thinking and experiences of film makers which have created ( my opinion) the most vivid , vibrant and emotionally intense films made in the past two decades. Speaking of the industry,the author missed the impact of the Region DVD codes which prevent foreign access to all Korean DVD's that don't have a US distributor. To this day I think DVD codes were managed by Hollywood not to prevent piracy, but to block importation of foreign DVD's.Good resource though for anyone who likes Korean cinema and wants to learn a bit more about it. Handy reference for names and titles..

Exceptionally clear and accessible

A gem of a book - the first section on research philosophies alone makes it worth reading. The authors write with exceptional clarity of subjects that are often difficult to grasp if not already well versed in research philosophy. Excellent advice on methodology as well - for graduate students such as myself, who might be struggling with methodological issues and who might be having difficulty writing the methodology / analysis chapters of their dissertations, I highly recommend seeking out this book.

Many books look useful but then when you really need guidance they fall apart. This book not only looks useful, it IS a useful guide to know what to do, when, and how. In fact, I found that it was the most useful book in qualitative research available on the market. It's a bit pricy but it's worth it.

Lots of potential

I have a huge amount of respect for writers. I could never sit down, come up with a plot and characters and then spit out an actual story. That means I'm in awe of Lisa Helen Gray for being able to come up with the first two books in the Carter Brothers series. But.. I don't know if it's the editing or the writing but "Malik" was pretty awful. Don't get me wrong, the storyline had a huge amount of potential and so did the characters. Unfortunately the story jumped around so much I felt like I had whiplash. Pertinent bits of information were injected at times that seemed completely inappropriate, like the author had just realized she had forgotten to mention them earlier and just stuck them in there as soon as she remembered to. The constant shifting of past to present tense was tedious as well as the substitution of words: "where" for "wear", "queue" for "cue" and so on into infinity. The thing that bugged me the worst was Harlow's name for her grandmother. If you want to shorten "grandmother" you don't add an apostrophe and make it "Gram's", it should be "Grams". I think this author has a lot of potential, just needs some writing classes and a lot of editing support to reach it.

I must be reading a totally different book. It was awful. The way they talked to each other and the grammer is a huge problem. I can usually get thru a book with grammer issues if the story is really good. I am sorry but I can not believed I paid for this.

Beautiful, Heartbreaking, Breathtaking, Raw, Incredible

Harlow and Malik are very similar in many ways, they just don’t know that each other will be the others saving grace. Harlow’s parents were murdered and forced her to move in with her grandma after their death. Malik and his brothers all live together and support one another making a living. They are both broken and hurting and need someone who loves them for them in their life. Will their love be enough for each other? Can Malik protect Harlow from Davis? Can Malik be the one that Harlow needs?

This story was beautiful. It was heartbreaking. It was breathtaking. It was raw. It was so many different things but wonderful doesn’t seem to give it enough credit. This author has created two main characters that have flaw and have a heart breaking past for one reason or another. They have walked through hell and are still kicking. I loved them! The range of emotions that I felt while I was reading this story was incredible. I laughed, I sighed, I got angry, I wanted to cry, and I was happy.
There are some dark moments in this book and I think it is those moments that make you love the characters and fall in love with their story and their lives even more. The author did such a GREAT job writing this story. These brothers are not to be messed with and that makes them even hotter! Lisa used some incredible description while writing this story so it made it so easy to picture the story as it was told.
I really can’t wait for her next book, Mason, to come out. Pick up your copy of Malik today, you won’t regret it!

An Indiana native, Kevin worked for Procter & Gamble for 37 years. He was a Sales Representative, Unit Manager and District Manager before finally moving to Northwest Arkansas to become a Group Marketing Manager on P&G's Walmart Team. He spent his last 19 years managing three different category businesses at Walmart and in 2004 he became one of only four William Procter Sales Masters in North America.

Best book on sales ever, and a valuable mentorship that fits in your hand

This is the best book on sales I've ever had the pleasure to read, and I learned much from its insights. Canfield is not just another theorist; he was named a William Procter Sales Master - one of only FOUR in the world, and his decades of experience in the crucible of a very high stakes world comes through on every page. You can tell he's been through the battles and knows his stuff. There are few things in life more valuable than a good mentorship, and Mastering Sales is literally a mentorship that fits in your hand. The only way you could get the depth and level of information offered in this book would be to shadow Canfield or one of the other three Procter Sales Masters in person for a few years. And good luck doing that unless you want to move to Bentonville, Arkansas. Some of the information you find here can be put immediately to use (and I have). Other things are more general principles that will put you ahead of the competition if you study, apply and hold to them over time. I especially enjoyed the real-world examples from Canfield's own experience - it really put things nicely into context and made the theoretical concrete.

You could literally spend years trying learn the things you can pick up in Mastering Sales. Do yourself and favor and get ahead of the game now by picking this up. If you are in sales in any capacity, or even thinking about going into sales, I would not hesitate to buy this book. Trust me.
