Not Good as only resource for CTT+ Prep

I've been teaching CTT+, train-the-trainer courses for a few years and my students enjoy a near 100% pass rate. While this book has some interesting information about Training, Instructional Design, and Development, I would NOT recommend this book to help you prepare for the CTT+ test or video. The questions at the end of each chapter do not reflect the types of questions CompTIA asks on the test, as taking the actual test will show. Additionally, I found a lot of "facts" in this book questionable (I couldn't cross-check because there were no footnotes, endnotes, works referenced, bibliography, etc). At the beginning of the book the author recommends making flash cards to study--learning any of these words would be a waste of time for CTT+. Even the style of the book feels like a textbook--not an interactive guide to help you improve training (see Telling Ain't Training put out by ASTD for a GREAT book on training). If you want books on training, find something else (like the one I just mentioned). If you need help with passing the CTT+, search for resources online or take a class (there are no really good CTT prep books out there, unfortunately). This book, for this test, in my opinion, will not prepare you.

Excellent Study Guide for CTT+ Exam!!!!

The CompTIA CTT+ Certified Technical Trainer All-in-One Exam Guide is an excellent resource to becoming a certified technical trainer! I've been a classroom instructor for several years and when this was first introduced to my department I thought that it would all be review of what I already knew. I was very wrong! Joseph Phillips lays everything out clearly for the reader. He is very good at explaining difficult concepts so that they are very easily understood and retained. Every day I catch myself growing into a better facilitator utilizing the knowledge gained by reading this book.
I know that had I not read this exam guide and studied from it, I never would have passed the CTT+ exam! If you follow the author's advice you will have no trouble passing the CTT+ exam yourself!

Awesome Book!!

Love this book! I am over half way finished with it and it has already more than paid for itself. While it is true I could have studied a bunch of "if ... then" scenarios and just regurgitated what I had learned in order to pass the test, I am thankful for the background Mr. Phillips has provided in this book. I will agree that this book may be wordy at times and goes beyond the objective of simply passing the CTT+ exam, although I would be ashamed to call myself a Certified Technical Trainer while never being introduced to some of the topics contained in this book such as the ADDIE methodology and Kirkpatrick evaluations.

About the Author
Kathryn Stout is a Christian educator, consultant, and speaker. An honors graduate of the University of Delaware, Kathryn holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education. During her eight years in public schools she taught, tested, and developed programs for students who did not respond to traditional strategies.

She homeschooled her own two children, Clea and Christopher, for fourteen years using the Design-A-Study materials she created. Both graduated from college with honors. Clea earned a BA degree from her parents' alma mater and a Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law. Christopher earned a BA in cinema-television from the University of Southern California, attending on a USC Presidential Scholarship.

Thought-provoking Movie Watching

I used this book with a class of 13 year old boys. Finding their powers of perception sharpened after only two sessions, their excitement in viewing old movies was incredibly palpable. Interestingly, black and white movies took on a new dimension with Sam Spade and "The Maltese Falcon". Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant, who liven up "The Philadelpha Story", made romantic comedies a new interest for the young men. While watching "The Music Man" they boys were introduced to "Trouble with a capital T" and the memorable "76 Trombones" which they still reference to this day. As a teacher, I learned a great deal of insight about these movies and my class has been trained to watch these old classics in a new thought-provoking way.

During the 1970s, Johannes Fabian encouraged Tshibumba Kanda Matulu to paint the history of Zaire. The artist delivered the work in batches, together with an oral narrative. Fabian recorded these statements along with his own question-and-answer sessions with the painter. The first part of the book is the complete series of 100 paintings, with excerpts from the artist's narrative and the artist-anthropologist dialogues. Part Two consists of Fabian's essays about this and other popular painting in Zaire. The essays discuss such topics as performance, orality, history, colonization, and popular art.

A unique style of painting developed among Zairean artists during the late colonial and postcolonial period. Often labeled "tourist-art," this emergent painting tradition has evolved considerably in recent years, moving beyond simple decorative landscape scenes to subjects of more indigenous interest. Fabian (chair, cultural anthropology and non-Western sociology, Univ. of Amsterdam) focuses on a remarkable cycle of 101 paintings that tells the modern history of Zaire from the perspective of artist Tshibumba Kanda Matulu. The volume is divided into two parts: the first reproduces the paintings together with Matulu's personal commentary, while the second offers the author's anthropological analyses of issues raised by Matulu's work. a landmark in the anthropology of art and popular culture

this is a fascinating contribution to these fields. the book follows a dialogue about images, painting and history between a Zairean painter and the ethnographer. it anticipates current discussions on anthropology and art practices. Tshibumba, the painter, is granted the position he deserves as a creative image-maker, and a vernacular historian.

Anthropologist Johannes Fabian performed an outstanding service in sponsoring painter/historian Tshibumba's unique vision of his country's history. His words and the paintings themselves offer a rather romantic look at precolonial life, but a searing indictment of the epoch of Belgian rule. The interpretation of the Mobutu period is more equivocal, partly due to living under the authority of that regime, but also because Tshibumba genuinely admired some of Mobutu's achievements. Our painter vanished (presumably deceased) in the mid to late 1970s just as the tyrant's control began to go sour; it would be fascinating to read and see how Tshibumba assessed Mobutu's decline and fall.
His history operates on three levels---through his startling folk images, his own words, and the dialogue which emerges out of interviews with Fabian. The result is probably the most fully realized popular interpretation of the history of any African country, though oriented toward Tshibumba's home province of Katanga (Shaba). Fabian's essays in Part II further enhance our understanding of their joint project, though some are dense enough to deter some students and lay readers, thus 4 1/2 stars. Overall, a stunning and memorable collaboration. If only we had more like it....
For another indigenous perspective on many of the same events, by a Katangan girl who grew to womanhood during the Mobutu era, see Suruba Wechsler, "By the Grace of God," less penetrating but rather more accessible. Useful background material is also available in works by Eduard Bustin, Crawford Young, and Phyllis Martin and David Birmingham.

Must by for Dark Heresy or Deathwatch fans

The overall book is just amazing. It gives you extensive background of the Ordo Mallues within the Calixis Sector and several plot devices to use in any setting for your game. The armoury and addtional carrer paths are excellent as is the extensive random demon creations guide. My favor section however is the Grey Knight character creations rules. This give you everything you need to play the Daemon Hunters of the Imperium. Also you don't need the Deathwatch corebook to play them at all the information is right here! My only misgiving is that the psychic system for Grey Knights is that of the Dark Heresy product line not that of the Rogue Trader or Deathwatch. However they do included, as they always do in ever crossover product, a table for Deathwatch pyschic game mechanics and ever included indivdual power cost for the unique Grey Knights Discipline. Aside from that the book is a great buy! I eagerly await the release of the Ordo Xenos book!

Ordo Malleus, Grey Knights and Daemons, this is the book you want!

How much was I looking forward to this book? When I saw this book was in my local gaming shop I canceled my Amazon pre-order, ran out and bought it at full retail. And you know what? It was worth every penny. FFG does their usual top-rate job turning in 144 pages of text and full color artwork.

As with the other expansions it contains new careers for henchmen, new weapons and equipment and new monsters to fight. But it also has information on the Grey Knights, elite daemon hunting marines which can be used along with the Deathwatch RPG to build GK characters.

The new careers are inventive and and interesting. There are Daemonym Seekers, badass librarians who find the true names of daemons in order to banish them. The Techsorcist is a tech priest who keeps technology clear of daemonic viruses. Banishers take on daemons with nothing but their faith and their oversized chainsaws and the Pyroclast is just a grunt who loves her flame thrower.

If you play Deathwatch or Dark Heresy this is one of the books you must get.

Evolution: A Controversial topic

I viewed the video first to prepare lessons. The video along with the teacher guide allows teachers to present information with open ended questions. Thus allowing students to make their own conclusions. There are a lot of facts presented and then the teacher guide helps teachers ask pertinent questions on the topics. I like that the video is broken up into small segments. This allows time for discussion along with taking notes and review during one class period.

I've found some very useful ideas in here. Some of the video segments are better than others, but I think it's worth having because evolution is such a difficult concept to teach. I've used ideas but not the entire curriculum wholesale.

I love that her book gives insight beyond the sensational and erroneous Hollywood versions presented in movies. You can see how much she treasures the religion in how she links up the practice with the meanings.
